The most dominant rhetorical approach Florence Kelley uses to share her message of establishing labor laws for children was pathos. Kelley described in detail events including the process of a girl likely to a cotton mill and working extended hours in a hazardous work area. Florencia Kelley explains such situations to move the audience and firmly appeal to their emotions. One other way Kelley utilized pathos was by using detailed language to produce an image of the children suffering through their extended hours of work. She said things such as “under the sweating program, tiny kids make unnatural flowers, inch and “little beasts of burden, conned of school lifestyle that they may go for us. inch Kelley employed these information to once again appeal to the audience’s emotions in the hopes that they would begin to understand the tough conditions that children had been working below. She wished that all the parents and workers would notice that they have failed the children and needed to begin making a big change.

One other rhetorical technique utilized by Florencia Kelley was logos or perhaps logic. Your woman used harsh facts to emphasize her meaning that kid labor laws need to be handed. In line thirty-seven of her speech, the lady said “New Jersey permits it (child labor) every night, ” and in line twenty-five she explained “girls via fourteen to twenty years old work every night. ” Kelley included these harsh information in her speech to help make the audience feel that a logical resolution to these children working through the night was to pass a child labor law to hold the children safe and healthy and balanced. Another example of her applying logos is definitely how she describes each of the places which experts claim not put restriction in child labor hours including Georgia. The audience found her argument more affordable when the lady used truthful information or perhaps logic to explain what the children went through in factories or perhaps wherever that they worked. Since the audience began to see her argument since reasonable and believable, it made them believe that that they needed to produce a change in the area of child labor.

Beginning in the third paragraph, Florence Kelley uses repetition with the phrase “While we sleep¦” to convey for the audience that while they were in bed at night, there have been children from coast to coast “working 9 hours a night. ” The girl used the repetition with this to phrase to leave this upsetting thought inside the audience’s heads. The effect of these thoughts becoming etched in the audience’s heads is that they is going to think about these children prior to they go to bed at night. They would become reminded of the people 2 million children who also only were required to work because there was no regulation protecting kid labor. Kelley wanted the idea of the children to linger in the audience’s mind so that they is going to hopefully start to do something to make a better working environment for the youngsters.

Florence Kelley’s presentation was extremely detailed and was effectively delivered. The lady used many rhetorical abilities to make her speech powerful and present her concept, such as passione, logos, and repetition.
