The story of Oliver Angle begins in 19th 100 years England in a workhouse where Oliver comes into the world. Shortly after Olivers birth, his mother passes away due to misery. For Oliver it was Fagin, and for the other kids, it is Count Olaf. I really believe that any kind of kid my own age is going to immediately make the reference I actually made with this book allowing them to have fun with this as much as I had.
