John is a very naÃve man and believes whatever is told to him, especially if this involves Goodness. Nicholas tells him that God is going to flood the earth just as he did with Noah, and that being a carpenter he must go and make a boat for himself, Nicholas and Alison. Becoming the honorable husband that he is, he tells Alison what Nicholas told him and the lady puts on a great act pretending to be frightened on her behalf life and tells him to hurry away and keep her safe, and he does just that.
